Nordic Touring in Abisko National Park

The mountains surrounding Abisko mountain stations are some of the most famous mountains in the Swedish mountain range. Abisko mountain station opened way back in 1903 when the railroad between Kiruna and Narvik was built. Ever since then travelers have come to Abisko to experience untouched wilderness and spectacular views. Due to its special climate, Abisko is one of the places with the best chances of experiencing northern lights. You now have a chance to come with us and ski through the Abisko Mountains under the aurora lights.

We will jump on the train on Wednesday evening in Umeå and wake up to views of snow-covered mountains. When we jump off the train in Abisko at around eleven we will pack our sledges and strap on our skis. Depending on the weather we will alter the goal and length of the trip, but our plan is to sleep two nights in tents out in the mountains. We will help you prepare for a comfortable winter camping experience, so you can join this trip even if you haven’t winter camped before. Hopefully we’ll see the dancing northern lights above our tents before heading to bed.

We will stay the final night at Abisko mountain station and enjoy the luxury of a warm bed and a hot sauna. That evening, we will also prepare a delicious three course dinner together. On Sunday afternoon, we jump on the southbound train and we will be back in Umeå later that night.
