Climbing
Climbing is a sport with high safety demands. Without sufficient knowledge about safety, climbing can pose a risk to both health and life.
By knowing our rules, attending our courses and trainings, and being aware of the specific risks associated with each activity, we can together minimize the risk of dangerous situations and accidents in IKSU’s climbing gym.
Pay attention to what’s happening around you and never walk underneath someone who is climbing. Show respect for others in the gym and wait for your turn.
Permissions and equipment
All visitors are welcome to climb; however, it is important that you have the proper knowledge of each procedure, the correct certification card for rope climbing, and are aware of the safety requirements for the activity you choose.
The use of a figure-eight descender or HMS knot is not permitted. Only CE-marked equipment that is approved by the manufacturer is allowed in the gym.
General rules
- Only IKSU-approved and organized activities are permitted. Climbing courses and groups always have priority access to areas they need.
- Please leave outerwear, shoes, and strollers outside the climbing gym.
- We keep personal belongings off the bouldering mats and outside the red safety zones.
- We do not play or rest on the bouldering mats—they are only for fall protection.
- As an adult, I may bring two children under the age of 15, over whom I must have full supervision and responsibility.
- Running is not allowed in the climbing gym.
- We only climb with shoes on.
- Due to the risk of injury, climbing harnesses are not permitted during bouldering.
- It is not allowed to be on top of the bouldering dome.
- We do not use headphones or hearing protection when climbing on ropes or autobelay.
- We must stand on the ground when belaying others.
- A Green Card is required to belay on top rope or to climb using autobelay. If I have a Green or Red Card, I may climb myself or assist my child (under 15) on the autobelay from the ground.
- We wear the correct certification card visibly on the back of the climbing harness.
- We only use the figure-eight follow-through knot for tying in.
- Top ropes in the climbing gym must remain undisturbed and are used exclusively for top rope climbing. We do not install our own top ropes or climb as a second.
- I must have a Red Card to belay someone who is lead climbing or to lead climb myself.
- When lead climbing, we clip into every quickdraw, and both carabiners in the top anchor must be clipped before lowering.
