Swimming school for children

Weeks 13-23 (break for Easter holiday weeks 15-16) Booking opens Wednesday, March 19 at 09:00

Price 1695 SEK 1420 SEK for parents with a valid IKSU card (at least 4 months), register in logged-in mode to use the member price.

To participate in the swimming school, the child must be 5 years old and a member of the IKSU association. Membership is personal and costs 200 SEK per calendar year, paid at the reception. Membership includes sports insurance (link in swedish).

Swimming school 1

Dopp och flyt/Dip and Float – Water Familiarity in Shallow Water

In a playful way, we teach children to bubble with their mouth and nose, jump from the edge, dip their head, and float in shallow water.

No prior knowledge is required.

Goal: The goal is for the children to be able to bubble, dip their head, glide 3–5 meters with or without aids, and jump from the edge.

Ryggsim och bröstsim/Backstroke and Breaststroke – First Strokes in Shallow Water

Children practice floating and rotating, and with symmetrical leg movements in back and stomach positions, swim 5 meters backstroke.

Prerequisites: Children's swimming school Dip and Float, or the child should be able to bubble with both nose and mouth, dip their entire head underwater, jump from the edge, and glide 3–5 meters without aids in shallow water.

Goal: The goal is for the child to be able to swim 5 meters backstroke and breaststroke without aids in shallow water, float with symmetrical leg movements for about 3 meters, and rotate freely from stomach to back. Additionally, the children should be able to jump from the edge in shallow water and return to the edge without touching the bottom with their feet.

Ryggsim och bröstsim fortsättning/Backstroke and Breaststroke Continuation in Shallow and Deep Water

Children continue to practice the techniques for the strokes. We train water familiarity in deep water, so parts of the instruction take place in deep water.

Prerequisites: Children's swimming school 2 backstroke and breaststroke – first strokes The child should be able to swim 5 meters backstroke and breaststroke without aids in shallow water, rotate freely from stomach to back, and jump from the edge in shallow water and return to the edge without touching the bottom with their feet.

Goal: The goal is for the child to be able to swim 10 meters both breaststroke and backstroke without aids in shallow water, jump from the edge in deep water, rise to the surface, float for 5 seconds, and then return to the edge.

Ryggsim och bröstsim på djupt vatten/Backstroke and Breaststroke in Deep Water

Children train their endurance to swim 25–50 meters backstroke and breaststroke. They also get to try crawl. Parts of the instruction take place in deep water.

Prerequisites: Children's swimming school 3 – Backstroke and breaststroke continuation The child should be able to swim 10 meters both breaststroke and backstroke without aids in shallow water, jump from the edge in deep water, rise to the surface, and float for 5 seconds before returning to the edge.

Goal: The goal is for the child to be able to be in deep water without difficulty, swim 25 meters backstroke, 25–50 meters breaststroke, and dive from the edge.

Swimming school 5

Simkunnighet på djupt vatten/Swimming Proficiency in Deep Water

Children train to become proficient swimmers and to be able to swim 25 meters crawl.

Prerequisites: Children's swimming school 4 – Backstroke and breaststroke in deep water The child should be able to be in deep water without difficulty, swim 25 meters backstroke and 25-50 meters breaststroke.

Goal: To become proficient in swimming and be able to swim 200 meters, of which 50 meters in backstroke. This is the benchmark for grading criteria for swimming in elementary school.

Good to know

Water Safety, Boat Safety, and Ice Safety are included in all our courses.

The course consists of nine sessions of 45 minutes each.

Participation in the swimming school grants the right to priority registration for the next round of swimming school. Priority registration follows the first-come, first-served principle.
